Watchfinder will be making its first appearance at Watches and Wonders thanks to a partnership with Panerai one of the industry’s most iconic brands. Best known for its cushion-shaped watches originally made for divers of the Italian Navy, Panerai has distinguished itself with its unique look and exceptional heritage. We’ll be sharing a booth with this incredible watchmaker where, alongside Panerai’s latest releases, we’ll be exhibiting a selection of classic Panerai models stretching back to the 1990s when its watches first became available to the civilian market. Panerai has a long history of making stylish and super-reliable watches for professional divers, beginning with its famed WWII contract for the Italian Navy's “Frogmen”. The PAM Submersible pieces are among Panerai's finest diving tools. This superb example features a 47mm titanium case and bezel – the latter fitted with a matt ceramic insert. The watch runs on the in-house automatic P.9000 movement, which boasts a 3-day power reserve from two barrels and allows the wearer to change the time in convenient 1-hour increments. It has been further augmented by a special soft-iron “amagnetic” Faraday cage that makes the watch highly resistant to magnetic fields.

Officine Panerai, to give it its full name, has a distinguished history of making extremely robust and stylish watches for professional divers, beginning with its famed WWII contract for the Italian Navy's “Frogmen”. Those in the Submersible collection are among Panerai's finest diving tools. This limited-edition version comes in a steel case and boasts a uni-directional bezel with graduated scale. It is one of 50 pieces and was originally made available only to serving members of the British Royal Navy Clearance Branch, whose crest is engraved on the case back. The watch runs on an automatic movement, which holds a 42-hour power reserve. The matching black factory strap features the brand name and is made of a durable rubber that is perfect for diving.

Enhancing the marine military aesthetic with which Panerai is synonymous, this Submersible model features a striking oceanic-blue dial and brushed-steel bezel resembling a porthole. Dial legibility is second-to-none, with its wide baton indices and part-skeletonised hour and minute hands, while a small-seconds display and date indicator with cyclops lens lie at 9 and 3 o’clock, respectively. The brushed steel 44mm case features a uni-directional bezel with graduated scale and is presented on a durable factory rubber strap bearing the words ‘Officine Panerai’. It runs on an OPIII automatic movement which is COSC-certified.

The PAM Submersible pieces are among Panerai's finest diving tools; this sought-after limited edition is extra nautical thanks to its use of glorious brushed bronze for the case and bezel. Bronze is known for acquiring a unique appearance as it ages beautifully over time. Unlike the previous Bronzo (Panerai's first, the 382), this piece boasts a power reserve display thanks to the superb in-house movement P.9002.

Panerai Luminor Submersible PAM00193
Panerai has a long history of making stylish and super-reliable watches for professional divers, beginning with its famed WW2 contract for the Italian Navy's “Frogmen”. The PAM Submersible pieces are among Panerai's finest diving tools, and this one is particularly remarkable. While the watch runs on a superb Swiss mechanical movement, an electronic module has also been fitted. Consisting of a pressure transducer, microprocessor, lithium battery and other components, it acts as a depth gauge, allowing wearers to measure their distance below the surface on a three-part scale around the outside of the dial. The movement has achieved COSC certification, and so too the depth gauge has been independently tested and certified by the Swiss Federal Office for Metrology (METAS).

Panerai Luminor Black Seal Limited Edition PAM00076
This limited edition Luminor Black Seal model pays tribute to the brand’s illustrious history of supplying diving instruments to the Italian Navy, especially during WW2 with its contract for the navy’s “Frogmen”. This watch is unusual for its brushed titanium case which is protected with a flip-up brushed-steel cover, hand-engraved with an image of a twin-manned torpedo—used by the Italian Navy for amphibious warfare. The dial, with its date aperture and small-seconds subdial, also features an image of the manned torpedo above 6 o’clock and the word ‘Blackseal’. The markers are lumed and applied, unlike Panerai’s usual recessed ‘sandwich’ markers. This model, powered by an automatic OP III calibre, is limited to just 300 pieces.

Panerai Luminor Marina Limited Edition PAM00082
This Luminor Marina Militare in a 44mm brushed titanium case is limited to just 300 pieces and features all the classic hallmarks of a Panerai watch, with the highly legible ‘sandwich’ dial and cushion-shaped case. The small seconds at 9 o’clock and the Luminor’s protruding crown protector complete the familiar aesthetic. Inside you’ll find a COSC-certified, manual-wind OP XI calibre, while the case back is beautifully engraved with a sailing ship, a fitting tribute to the 15th century Italian merchant and explorer, Amerigo Vespucci, from whom the word ‘America’ is derived.

The watch runs on the COSC-certified OP III calibre which holds a 42-hour power reserve.

This gorgeous black Luminor is one of a limited run with reference PAM 508. The 508 is significant for being the first Luminor Submersible with a ceramic case, made from zirconium oxide with an added heat-resistant pigment that provides the deep black colouring. A sandblasted finishing creates the matt appearance. The result is incredibly hard, lightweight and scratch-resistant, and looks amazing in its imposing 47mm form. The black leather strap completes the look. The watch runs on the in-house P.9000 movement, which boasts a 3-day power reserve from two barrels, and allows the wearer to change the time in convenient 1-hour increments.

Panerai Luminor 1950 Limited Edition PAM00203
This special Luminor pays tribute to some of the brand's vintage models, when Panerai was making watches for the Italian and Egyptian Navies. One rare timepiece built for the latter, GPF 2/56 “Big Egiziano”, became legendary for its “Angelus” movement with an eight day power reserve. It had the words “8 giorni brevettato” (“8 days patented”) written around a circle on the dial, a mark that has since become something of a Panerai holy symbol. Only a tiny number of modern references also have this marking, of which this wonderful PAM 203 is one. The truly extraordinary thing about this watch is the movement: the very same Angelus SF 240 calibre used in the Big Egiziano, still boasting eight days of power.

Panerai Radiomir 8 Days Limited Edition PAM00502
Robust, handsome and gloriously complicated, the PAM 502 is a very special—and limited edition—example of the Radiomir series, with its large, distinctive gold case and superb alligator strap. Then there's the stunning mechanical credentials. With extraordinary in-house movement P.2004, the watch boasts a whopping 8-day power reserve (with linear display at 6 o'clock) and a GMT/24-hour sub-dial—all on top of the column wheel, “monopulsante” (meaning single-pusher at 8 o'clock) chronograph with just one totaliser at 3 o'clock. The watch is an adaptation of previous pieces that have employed the P.2004 in the Luminor series, making it all the more special.

Panerai Radiomir Manual PAM00262
This wonderfully pared-down Panerai Radiomir 1936 with a ‘California’ brown-black dial and no brand or logo harks back to the first wristwatch Panerai ever made for the Italian Navy. While those watches were steel-cased, this contemporary luxury version comes in platinum and features a Plexiglas crystal to enhance the vintage aesthetic. It’s also run on a manual-wind OP X movement, whose bridges are decorated with Cotes de Geneve stripes— visible through the exhibition case back. With a 47mm case, it’s faithful to those oversized originals from Panerai’s glorious past, which have now become hugely desirable at auction. This watch is one of 99 pieces.

Panerai Luminor 1950 PAM00670
This striking blue-dialled Luminor model features a rare ‘Equation of Time’ function, a highly sophisticated and rarely made complication that indicates the difference between the mean time and the true time indicated by the solar meridian. The horizontal display in the lower half of the dial displays this time difference and is set automatically during the setting of the month and date. The watch is also a GMT, with a second hour hand and PM/AM indicator that shares the small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock. The month is displayed by the opposite subdial while the discreet date window blends in with the dial at 4 o’clock. Powered by a manual-wind P.2002/E calibre, it comes in a brushed titanium case that’s water-resistant to 100 metres.

Panerai Luminor Chrono Limited Edition PAM00202
This is a rare Luminor chronograph that bears the name ‘Slytech’ on the dial, referring, of course, to the man who helped bring Panerai back from obscurity: Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone. One of just 500 pieces, this heavy-duty, limited-edition model is one of just 500 units and is an aptly robust watch, considering its name. As well as having a brushed, tough titanium case, it’s water-resistant to an impressive 1000 metres and comes on a durable rubber strap. Running this incredible watch is an automatic OP XII calibre, which has a power reserve of 46 hours. For that extra A-List touch, the case back bears the signature of Sylvester Stallone himself.

It is water-resistant to 300 metres and part of a limited-edition series of one thousand pieces.

Panerai Radiomir 3 Days Acciaio Limited Edition PAM00687
This Panerai Radiomir is one of 1000 made and features a ‘tropical’ dial. The watch’s dial has been fashioned to resemble the patina seen on vintage Panerai watches which have suffered the effects of radioactive exposure. The Radiomir paint in the vintage watches emitted gamma rays, from the radioactive Radium, and aged the watch in a fashion which turned the originally black paint to a light brown colour. Brevetatto, the Italian for patented, is inscribed around the bezel and refers to the design of the watch which adheres to a vintage aesthetic, Panerai have used a 12-sided bezel like those found on prototype watches from the 1930s.

Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days Limited Edition PAM00662
The Radiomir 1940 3 Days is a faithful recreation of the Egiziano Piccolo (“Little Egyptian”) model, reference 6514, of which only 30 or 40 examples were ever made. The dials of those sought-after vintage watches were eventually turned from black to brown by the Radium lume used in the numerals, but this modern version plays harmless tribute with its factory brown dial. The spartan face of this watch, with no seconds hand, is set within a 47mm steel case, which features an exhibition case back. It’s powered by the in-house Caliber P.3000 which holds a power reserve of 72 hours, or three days.
