Feature: Do You Remember These Discontinued IWC Watches?
Like all watchmakers, there are some watches in their catalogues that get left behind, maybe to make way for a revamped model or perhaps because they simply didn’t achieve instant popularity. Either way, there are always some watches that, in our opinion, didn’t deserve to get discontinued, such as this fine trio from the mighty IWC, below. Do you agree?
IWC Portugieser Minute Repeater Ref. IW5242-02
This elegant number from IWC features all the hallmarks of a classic dress watch: a clean minimalist dial, a brown alligator strap and a dash of rose gold for good measure. Powering the watch is the 54-jewel calibre 95290 which was inspired by the calibre 95 fitted in IWC’s pocket watches from the 1930s. There are only 250 examples of this piece in existence and with production ending in 2009, this is a rare and stunning IWC indeed.
IWC Da Vinci Chronograph IWC376414
Introduced in 2007 as part of the brand’s revamp of its Da Vinci line, this model marked a turning point for the collection which saw IWC swap its traditional circular case for this tonneau shaped one. Featuring a steel case and bracelet, and a black dial with two chronograph sub dials at 12 and 6 o’clock, this is a fresh take on a chronograph watch—and one we certainly admire.

Released in 2007 and described as a dive computer, the Deep Two is a watch that’s ready for some underwater action! Featuring one of the most impressive complications you can get in a dive watch—a mechanical depth gauge—this IWC is geared up for real diving professionals and successfully woos watch fans while it’s at it. What’s more, it can measure your current depth, up to 50 metres, as well as your max depth on a particular dive—what more could you want?
