News: Maurice Lacroix launches Aikon Master Grand Date Technicolour
Maurice Lacroix is a brand that probably deserves a little more attention. Founded in 1975 but with roots that go back to the late 19th century, it produces around 90,000 watches annually, many of which fly under the radar.
A quick scan of its diverse catalogue, however, reveals a brand striving to offer aesthetically distinctive watches with interesting complications, and at price points that won’t make you run for the hills.
Along with the Masterpiece collection, the Aikon range sits at the top of the Maurice Lacroix line-up, offering models like the Master Grand Date, the first of which was released in 2021.
The aesthetic owes much to Hublot, featuring a beefy 45mm angular case with a distinctive bezel and integrated sport-luxe thick rubber strap, while the asymmetric dial boasts off-centre hours and minutes—set on a Royal Oakesque Clous de Paris backdrop—above a skeletonized small-seconds sub-dial. The balance wheel is on full display at 4 o’clock and the prominent date window is what gives the watch its name.
These latest models bring a fresh colour scheme to the line, with the original from a couple of years ago being an all blue affair in standard steel. This time you’ve got black DLC-coated steel twinned with vivid blue, green, yellow and orange. Flip it over and you get to admire an in-house automatic movement that is pleasingly matched to the dial, with black DLC-coated components and a skeletonised rotor.
Each version is limited to just 50 pieces and comes in a special box in a matching colour, made from salvaged plastic upcycled from the ocean.
